A Weekend With Nature

I could hardly wait to leave work on Friday! I felt like a zombie trapped inside his own tomb. I left work and took my oldest son to our local state park for the weekend of camping with the cub scouts. It was refreshing to not think about the internet or cell phone!

We arrived after dark and set up our tent with the help of some friends. Then my son ran off to play with the other boys as I relaxed around the campfire until 10 o’clock. It was so nice to sit around with friends and have a good time. We went to sleep on our new tent and listened as nature spoke outside. Though it was a cool night, we stayed warm and comfortable under every blanket I had!

At 6 a.m. we woke to juice and donuts before heading off to the 4-H fairgrounds to join 300+ cub scouts for the annual Fall Field Day of fun and activities spread out over the course of 8 hours. I had the privilege of watching ten boys as we made our way from Kickball, to First Aid, to BB Guns, to Horseshoes. I was wonderful to see everyone have such a wonderful time.

At 5 o’clock we returned to camp for our second night out and cooked hot dogs and s’mores. A friend of mine brought his guitar and played through the evening which was an awesome touch! The kids ran and played football and hike around the trails closest to camp. By ten, everyone was beat from the day and crashed in their tents.

We got up in the morning and four of us cooked pancakes, eggs, sausage and bacon for close to 100 people. It was good food and a good time before packing up to head home for a nice hot shower.

The day has ended with two more pages of Bk4 being completed as I march towards the completion of the series this month! It’s every night from here on out…
