With 600+ pages penned for Marky, Slash & Levy and the birth of my third son, writing became almost too difficult to do in part because I wa so exhausted I could not think, let alone be creative. I did, however take a handful of nights to finish a short story I had begun at the same time I started work on MS&L. ‘Barney & Lexi: Lost in Lawrenceville’ was based on two pets that were my grandparnets and whom got lost in the small southern Illinois town.
Having completed it was a great accomplishment for me. I wondered several times if I would finish it and I did…after six years:) I also began enrollment in the Children’s Institute of Literature under the Children’s Literature program. It was there that I penned my first short story prequel to ‘Adventures’, “Marky, Slash & Levy and The Strange Sound”.
Although I enjoyed my classes at the Institute, due to financial problems, I had to leave. I do plan to return soon though and finish the program and graduate.
Also through this time I realized that my own personal goals for the MS&L Series is not the same as that of my publisher. Therefore, by summer I will meet my contractual abligations and will be released from both contracts for “Adventures and “Return”. I then will return the Book Two name to “The Return of Marky, Slash & Levy’.
With the prospect of regaining the rights to MS&L, I began having Illustrations drawn up of the characters of Mavenwood, to this date I have 12 illustrations with more on the way. It is with and optimistic view of the future, I see the series going onto bigger and better things I will start that journey by the end of spring with the beginning of Book 4…’Marky, Slash & Levy: Journey to The Heatseeker….
